Beyond Self-Love

“Unless you have achieved alignment between you and You, no other relationship can be a good one.”

Abraham Hicks

Self-love is the foundation that all other love is built on: our love for family, partner, friends, strangers and planet.  When we fall in love with ourselves we fall in love with the world.

The greater our ability to feel self-love, the greater our ability to radiate unconditional love all around us but sometimes it’s easier said than done.

In honour of St Valentine’s Day when everyone’s thinking about love (either through gritted teeth or with blissful delight) I wanted to create a package of Self-Love Soul Medicine. These resources will help you shift your vibration into self-love for those times when you feel unloving or self-critical or self-doubting or self-hating or self-rejecting or forget for a while that you are already absolutely perfect just how you are.

You access your true nature of love when you release the vibrations from your energy field that are not love.  This Soul medicine is designed to help you realign with the love that’s always inside you, deep in your heart even when you can’t feel it.

Self-Love Soul Medicine = Self-Love Meditation + Self-Love Soul Blend + Love Poster/Wallpapers to Download

The meditation and poster/wallpapers are free for you to enjoy and I’m offering the Self-Love Soul Blend with a 10% discount until Monday 20th February.

Want to go straight to the freebies? Scroll down to the bottom of the page, beautiful soul and download!

Want to meet the stars that feature in the Self-Love Soul Blend?  I combine 6 flower essences and one gem essence to release unloving vibrations from the energy field.

HANDEL ROSE

Positive qualities: positive self-worth, releases patterns of self-criticism and self-sabotage

Handel Rose is for when there are feelings stuck in the heart chakra that create low self-worth. If you didn’t receive enough nurturing and a positive image of yourself from your parents in childhood it can be difficult to recognise your own innate value and self worth as you grow up. This can lead to feelings of never being good enough, experienced as inferiority, self-criticism, self-sabotage, needing to prove yourself or feeling undeserving.

STARGAZER LILY

Positive qualities: unconditional love, femininity, self-acceptance

Stargazer Lily carries the vibration of unconditional love and is aligned to the planetary energy of Venus, making it a very soft and feminine essence to take. It helps to soften harsh attitudes towards the self that get in the way of showing yourself kindness, gentleness and love. It increases the vibration of love opening the heart to more and more unconditional love for self and others.

RUBY RED ROSE

Positive qualities: forgiveness, self-forgiveness, love, compassion, acceptance

One of the biggest barriers to self-love that we experience is lack of forgiveness towards self and others. True forgiveness comes when we can accept all of life’s circumstances as the perfect experiences for our Soul’s growth.

Ruby Red Rose is attuned to the Ruby Red Ray of forgiveness, promoting the healing vibration of forgiveness from deep inside. As Ruby Red Rose is taken, it gently transmutes old pain and sorrow held in the heart chakra leaving love and compassion in its place.

RUBY

Postive qualities: divine love, confidence, self-esteem, leadership, divine inspiration

Ruby is a master gem for the heart chakra promoting self-esteem and confidence. It creates balance in spiritual endeavours and promotes divinely inspired leadership.

Ruby opens the heart to receive love as well as to give it and releases barriers created by holding hostility and anger towards the father or father figures in your life.  As the heart chakra becomes more balanced, you’ll feel more joyful, flexible and able to make decisions from the heart.

LAVATERA

Positive qualities: positive body image, sensuality, self-assurance, inner power, clear boundaries

Negative judgements about our bodies or certain parts of the body can be a huge barrier to self-acceptance and self-love.

Lavatera fosters greater love for the body and the ability to see the body as a sacred vessel for spirit. It awakens greater pleasure in the sensuality of the body, releasing dislike and negative judgements about the body.

As subconscious patterns of punishing or rejecting the body are released, it becomes easier to honour the body with positive food and lifestyle choices.  Lavatera brings confidence and clarity about your needs and the ability to express them.

 APPLE:

Postive qualities: self-acceptance, radiant confidence, receiving abundance

When we have difficulty accepting ourselves we find it difficult to receive from others – whether that’s love or kindness or compliments or abundance. When we focus on feelings about what we’re lacking on a personal level, this feeling of lack underpins our relationship to the world around us and we fail to notice and receive the abundance that’s there for us.

Essence of Wild Apple Blossom essence releases blocks to self-acceptance so that you’ll radiate your light into the world with confidence and receive greater abundance.

SWEETHEART ROSE:

Positive qualities: unconditional love, the ability to give and receive without expectation

Unconditional love is to love someone regardless of their actions or beliefs and that includes ourselves! We may think we need to be or do something different before we’ll be able to fully accept and love ourselves when the truth is we are all already perfect just the way we are.

Unconditional love is the vibration of pure love without conditions or expectations that is our true nature and Sweetheart Rose will help you to connect with the bliss and joy of unconditional love held deep within your heart.

The Self-Love Soul Blend will help you discover acceptance, love, compassion and forgiveness for yourself and radiate these qualities out into the world.

25ml Self-Love Blend: £10  + £2.50 p&p worldwide.

How Do Essences Work? An Elevator Speech

Have you ever come up with an ‘elevator speech’ where you succinctly tell people what you do for a living? I struggle with mine, I really do. You see officially I’m a vibrational medicine practitioner but it’s a peculiar phrase that seems to conjure up strange visions for people. I’ve variously been asked if I make music, conduct laser eye surgery or work with sex toys. Just for the record no, No and NO ….although I find the notion of these as alternative career choices very very funny!

I’d like you to imagine we’re standing beside each other in an elevator, zooming up from the basement when you catch my eye and ask me what I do.

“I’m a vibrational medicine practitioner” I say and you raise an eyebrow, inviting me to elaborate. It’s good we’re standing so close because my voice is quiet and you can tell I prefer one-to-one conversations to group discussions.

I start to talk, drawing pictures in the air as I describe how vibrational medicine works and how I use it with people.

Everything in nature vibrates at a particular frequency.

Scientific research has shown that different parts of our bodies have their own vibration and a healthy organ has a different vibration from an unhealthy one.

Similarly a loving thought has a different vibration from a hateful thought, and angry feelings have a different vibration from vulnerable feelings.

Take a moment to call to mind a time when you felt absolutely furious. Remember your feelings of rage and notice how your body responds. You might feel heat and notice your heart pumping or your body shaking. There may be a sense that you’re solid and immovable. You might frown or set your jaw solidly as your entire energy field responds to the emotion of anger.

Now let that feeling go as you take a few deep breaths to release it.

Now think of a time when you felt really vulnerable and insecure. Remember the feelings of uncertainty and notice how your body responds to that. You might feel small or cold or wobbly. There may be a sense that you’re not even really here and you could fall over or stumble easily. You might go pale, look down or even huddle up to protect yourself. Notice how different that feels to when you felt anger.

Now let that feeling go as you take a few deep breaths to release it.

Emotions are energy in motion and they’re meant to come and go easily, but often unhealthy emotions get stuck in our energy fields and we need help to release their vibrations.

That’s where I come in.

As a vibrational medicine practitioner I’m tuning into the vibration or energy of the patterns and issues that someone brings to me so I can match them to the most appropriate vibrational medicine to bring balance.

Our personal vibration is made up of the frequencies of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies interlinked together.  Every thought, feeling, belief and action contributes to our unique vibrations as individuals. That vibration or energy is constantly changing depending on what we’re eating, how we’re moving our bodies, what we’re doing, how we’re feeling, what we’re thinking and how we’re responding to life.

If you’re feeling really apathetic, haven’t left the house all day and you’ve been eating takeaway pizza and watching TV, your vibration will be much lower than if you’re feeling in love with life, you’ve been on a big walk in gorgeous countryside and you’ve had a green smoothie for breakfast.

Different flower and and crystal essences have different vibrations that correspond with the energy of particular emotions or beliefs or parts of the physical body. Essences that balance anger are different from essences that release feelings of vulnerability. Essences that energetically support the functioning of the heart are different from essences that support the reproductive system.

Each essence contains the life force or vibration of a particular flower or gem or crystal. Think about an oak tree and the qualities it embodies. If you were to describe an oak tree what sorts of words would you use?  Words like strong, resilient and steady? These are the very qualities that oak flower essence restores when you take it.

If you were to describe a rose you might describe it as soft, romantic and beautiful.  Roses have long been regarded as symbols of love and all rose essences work on the heart; in one way or another opening it up more and more so we can experience divine love.

When you match the most resonant essence to an emotion or belief or physical issue, the vibration changes and deep transformation takes place.

Vibrational medicine (like flower and crystal essences) changes your vibration, so that you’ll feel better from the inside out. This makes them incredibly potent tools for personal growth and transformation.  I’d like to share this quote from Abraham Hicks with you:

“The amount of time it takes you to get from where you are to where you want to be, is only the amount of time it takes you to change the vibration within you. Instant manifestation could be yours if you could instantly change the vibration.”

I wonder where you want to be? What’s the vibration that needs to change so you can get there?

As you take essences, your vibration changes because you’re releasing the energy of old beliefs and emotions and disharmony. Most people say they feel lighter and closer to their true nature while they’re taking essences.

When we use vibrational medicine, we bring balance to our personalities and expand our consciousness.

We move deeper into our hearts and discover the nature of our own souls, experiencing more love and peace.

We realign with our truth, joy and purpose and and we feel it in every single cell. Life flows, we feel creative, inspired, fulfilled, joyful and truly alive.

From this place of greater alignment with our true essence, we manifest what we’re really here for.

We feel loving, expansive and connected and our inner light shines for all to see.”

Edward Bach, the pioneering medical doctor who discovered the Bach Flower Remedies in the 1930s would have been good at writing an elevator speech. In around a hundred words he expresses what it took me over a thousand to say:

“The action of these remedies is to raise our vibrations and open up our channels for the reception of our Spiritual Self, to flood our natures with the particular virtue we need, and wash out from us the fault which is causing harm. They are able, like beautiful music, or any gloriously uplifting thing which gives us inspiration, to raise our very natures, and bring us nearer to our Souls: and by that very act bring us peace and relieve our sufferings. They cure, not by attacking disease, but by flooding our bodies with the beautiful vibrations of our Higher Nature, in the presence of which disease melts as snow in the sunshine.”

So when people ask what I do, maybe all I need to say is “I help people to find peace and relieve suffering” and maybe all you need to say is “thanks for reminding me I need to pop into here and here on the way home!”

How to Make a Gem Elixir + A Giveaway

Hermiker Diamond by Rob Lavinsky, iRocks.com

Have you ever wondered how to make your own flower and crystal essences? I’ve made flower essences many times (and will be talking about how you can make your own here this spring) but I’ve never made a crystal essence or gem elixir so I was excited to see a video on creating a gem elixir by Stephanie from Hibiscus Moon Crystal Academy when she shared it in the Goddess Circle.

Stephanie’s enthusiasm is infectious so I’m sure you’ll get inspired by her video too. She’s sharing some of her crystal wisdom plus a burst of Florida sunshine with us today so get comfortable, you could be making your very own gem elixirs soon too. N.B. Gem elixir, gem essence and crystal essence are all different words for the same thing (like flower remedy and flower essence).

You say you make the gem elixir before noon which is the same as in the flower-essence making tradition. Is the weather significant too? I try to make elixirs on a sunny summer’s day since that’s when the pranic energy from the Sun is most potent. Although I don’t think the Sun is necessary every time you make a gem elixir, if I’m going to make a batch of it for myself or to sell, then I will be sure to use the pranic Sun energy since I know this will give my gem elixir that powerful energetic boost! That’s why making several mother gem essences to store & work from makes things very easy because then I can just pull from that whenever the fancy strikes me to whip up an elixir…even at 2 am!

How do you preserve the gem elixir after you’ve made it? After I’ve made my Mother Essence, the original batch, I preserve this in high proof vodka with a 1:1 ratio and store in glass jars that I keep in a cool dark place. I then stick notes of intentions that correspond with the energies of the stones on the outside of the jar a la Dr. Emoto. For instance, if I’ve created a gem elixir for Love with rose quartz and perhaps rhodonite, I will write “I Love You” all over the outside. This sets up the energetic frequencies of love and helps to further program the water molecules.

Then from my Mother Essence, I will make a myriad of other items homeopathically. So I can add a few drops to a pitcher of water in the fridge & now my whole pitcher is filled with Love Vibes! We can drink from that sweet stuffs all week now. Or I can use it to make hot tea with. I may plop a tumbled rose quartz into that pitcher just for some extra added oomph….& because it’s pretty!

Do you use rough stones rather than polished? For gem elixirs that I’m making a Mother Essence from, I use whatever I have on hand as long as it’s not toxic. You can refer to my list here. If I will be leaving the stone in my water for ingesting then I prefer a well washed tumbled non-toxic stone.

When would you use a gem elixir rather than meditating or using a stone in other ways? It’s all intuitive. I go off of instinct on this. Gem elixirs certainly lend themselves more easily to anything long term or if I don’t have time to meditate. Many times, I am awfully unromantic about the whole thing…I may just feel I need something for the day & hastily plop a tumblie in my water bottle in the morning. And then sometimes, I’m very ceremonial about the whole process like I was recently for 11-11-11. I was whipping up gem elixirs all day, using my copper pyramids, Sun prana, my other crystals for amplification, my compass for directional alignments, I was going to TOWN & loving every minute of it! ;)

I’m used to combining gem elixirs with flower essences but you use them in other exciting ways too. Tell me more! Yeah, I go pretty nuts with it. I’ll make all sorts of sprays, anointing oils, bath additives, tea, drinks (cocktails even!) Here’s a cute drink I LOVE to make (non alcoholic…hiccup!):

Citrine Hibiscus Soda Pick Me Up:
Hibiscus and rose hips are both full of vitamin C, which is damaged by heat. That is why I use a cold method to make this soda. This is a delicious & beautiful drink.

  • 1/4 cup dried hibiscus flowers (I grow my own)
  • 1 tablespoon dried rose hips
  • 1/2 cup agave nectar
  • Fill glass ½ full with club soda (soda water)
  • 1/2 lemon
  • Citrine gem elixir water
  • 1 citrine stone in the bottom of the bottle or glass to continuously charge it

Which is your all time favourite gem or crystal for heart healing? Rose Quartz, not only is this the “love stone” but it brings about caring soothing compassion.

Which stone do you recommend for manifesting dreams? Herkimer Diamonds are known to enhance our dreams & visions by opening up spiritual gateways, making them extremely useful for dream work.

If you had to choose one stone for helping you to listen to your soul wisdom which would it be? Chrysanthemum Stone is great for doing any kind of soul work & discovering exactly what your soul’s purpose is in this life.

Keen as Mustard? Inner Light for Gloomy Days

Images by Jason Smalley

Just when I thought all the flowers in the garden had given way to winter, I noticed the wild mustard (charlock) that Bach’s mustard flower remedy is made from. Flowering since May, these four-petalled yellow flowers are still budding with new growth and that makes me smile.

The mustard flowers have been the light bearers through the winter, shining lemon-bright in the garden when everything else was hiding and that is so very apt.

mustard flower remedy

Mustard flower remedy is often needed at this time of year in the northern hemisphere when people struggle with the lack of light. As Edward Bach said “this remedy dispels gloom, and brings joy to life”.

Mustard flower remedy is one of a handful of Bach Flower Remedies used for depression (gorse, gentian, wild rose and sweet chestnut treat other aspects of depression).

Mustard is for when there’s no logical reason for you feeling down. You feel heavy headed, slow, unmotivated and melancholy – as though there is a soul deep sadness that you can’t quite express. You feel separate from the world, locked into a heavy gloom that others don’t understand and you just can’t put a brave face on it.

Bach described mustard for “Those who are liable to times of gloom, or even despair, as though a cold dark cloud overshadowed them and hid the light and the joy of life. It may not be possible to give any reason or explanation for such attacks. Under these conditions it is almost impossible to appear happy or cheerful”.

People who experience this state are usually incredibly sensitive to the energies of others and to planetary energies like moon phases and solar flares and global events.

It’s as though you are less able to filter out these experiences than other people, so you absorb all the negativity unconsciously and it lowers your vibration. When your vibration is low, your energy levels are low and it becomes almost impossible to find the motivation to do the very activities that will top up your levels of inner light.

You know that spiritual practice or exercise or healthy food or fresh air would help but it feels too much and you just can’t motivate yourself to do any of these things, so you become paralysed in your own darkness, unable to move through it.

On a Soul level, this can be an important initiation: sitting in the dark and meeting the parts of your personality that hide in the shadows. Whenever we embrace the gloom we move closer to the light.

Taking mustard flower remedy floods your energy field with the vibrations of light and joy so that the flicker of inner light that is always inside you (even when you can’t see it) begins to grow bright again. The bright light of mustard dispels the gloom like the sun coming out from behind a cloud.

If you’re in this gloomy dark state at the moment here’s my tried and tested list of what to do:

  1. Take mustard flower remedy. I buy mine here.
  2. Give yourself permission to feel exactly how you’re feeling. It will pass.
  3. Write Morning Pages: learn more here
  4. Exercise – dance, running, walking, martial arts or anything else that you actually quite like will get those happy chemicals flowing in your brain.
  5. Spiritual practice – yoga, meditation, shamanic drumming, prayer, ritual.
  6. Eat leafy greens like kale and spinach because they are full of chlorophyll so, in essence, when you eat leafy greens you’re consuming sunlight.
  7. Get fresh air – there is evidence that even 5 minutes a day boosts mental wellbeing.
  8. List the things you’re grateful for every day – there are days you might struggle to think of one thing but try, really try and you’ll find something.

Gradually you’ll feel more resilient, more joyful and part of the world again. Your soul will find its way back home and your inner light will glow bright again.

Secret Rebel Guide to Living Your Dreams in 2012

When you live your dreams you change the world.

2012 is new terrain for us all – a more heart-centred way of being; a new paradigm.  This year, more than any other, we will be guided by our Souls and feel the need to live our dreams.

So now that we are in the first month of this new year tell me, what dreams are you holding close to your heart?

Help people to heal? Save the planet? Write a novel? Travel to Hawaii? Meet your soul partner? Start a family? Learn a new language? Explore the creative side of you that got put on hold when you got a ‘proper job’ or had children? Climb a mountain? Earn your living teaching what you’re passionate about? Build an eco-house? Grow your own food? Go on retreat?

This is the year to hold your dreams close and make them come true. No matter how small your dreams may seem, they are part of a bigger dream. They are part of the consciousness of 2012. They are part of a world dream; a new way of being.

Every time you think a life-affirming, soul-enhancing thought you are adding to that energy in the world. Every time you dream and envision a different future you are adding to that energy in the world.

Every time you make choices from your Soul you change the world for the better.

“If your soul is your ultimate place in the world and you need to live from that place to be fully yourself, then the world cannot be fully itself until you become fully yourself.” Bill Plotkin

Those of us making our dreams come true now are making the shift that turns the planet on its axis. Previous generations were not afforded the luxury of living their dreams because their focus was mostly on survival.

We are living in a unique and rare moment in time.

We are the rule breakers, the dream-livers, the visionaries

The secret rebels of Soul-centred living

The trail-blazing pioneers of a new paradigm

The role models for a new future on a heart-centred planet.

When you live your dreams you feed your Soul. You light the world up with the radiance that shines out of you and make the world a brighter place.

When you plant a flag in the moon of your dreams you make it easier for other people to send up the rockets of their desires. Soon living our dreams will be the default setting for all of us – soon the vibration of the planet will be that which supports us all to live in congruence with our Soul dreams. When you live your dreams you give other people permission to do the same.

But living our dreams can be scary and it brings up all sorts of uncomfortable ‘stuff’ like doubt and lack of confidence and fear, so sometimes we ignore the dreams that call us because the emotional price of listening feels too high.

When we start to imagine living our dreams we come face-to-face with fears that we might not see otherwise.

Fear that you won’t be able to support yourself financially, fear that your dream might not look so beautiful when you show it to the world, fear about what other people will think, fear of failure. It can be a minefield but it can also be a beautiful soul initiation as you journey through those fears and manifest your dreams with all the wisdom you gained from facing your fears.

I created the Live Your Dreams Soul Blend from flower and gem essences that specifically address these fears and flood you with the vibrations of self-belief, inner knowing, confidence and determination so you can bring your dreams down to earth (Live Your Dreams Soul Blend is on special offer with 10% off until the end of January).

Flower and gem essences are one of the resources for living your dreams that I use and recommend regularly. Read on for some wonderful online resources and everyday wisdom gleaned from years of secretly rebelling against the ‘norm’ and making my dreams come true.

12 Secret Rebel Tips for Living Your Dreams in ’12

1. Give yourself permission to dream and visualise and listen to your heart. I love this free Dreaming and Visioning the Year to Come guide from Joanna Powell Colbert of the Gain Tarot which has the perfect mix of creative vision and practical actions.

2. Imagine or visualise your dreams regularly. A potent visualisation is to imagine a day in your dream life. Get centred and quiet and imagine your perfect day, dreaming up all the details. Write down every single part from getting up the morning to going to bed at night: what you do, what you eat, who you spend time with, where you go……every tiny detail.

3. Make quiet space on a regular basis for your dreams to unfold. Meditate, pray, stare at a blank wall, go for a walk on your own – anything that switches you off from noise and sensory over-stimulation and switches you on to your inner wisdom (Barefoot Breathing is perfect for this. Just saying!)

4. Follow your inner promptings to take action: it’s that gorgeous alchemical power of using your wise feminine inner knowing with your dynamic masculine ability to act that turns a dream into reality.  Without action, a dream just stays a dream floating around in the ether so when you feel inspired to do something to further your dream, just do it!

5. Dreams grow stronger when you share them with someone who loves and supports you. They’ll nurture your dreams and help them grow. This also gives you someone to check in with who can help you to see the progress you’ve made when you feel stuck so choose a friend to help you nurture your dreams and speak to them this week.

6. Fledgling dreams are fragile and can easily get broken when you tell them to people who don’t share your vision so carefully choose who you share your dreams with. If you know that your partner or your mother or your boss will shoot your dreams out of the sky don’t put yourself in the firing line by telling them just yet. There will be plenty time for that when it’s the launch party for your book/interview for new job/a month until you leave the country!

7. Find a mentor who has done similar things to what you’re wishing for and learn from them. Ask around in your local area or among your contacts or Google what you’re dreaming about. In the interests of research I just googled the most random thing I could think of that someone might be dreaming about: riding yaks bareback in Mongolia and yes, Google had links for this. However random or wild your dream might be there will be someone out there who has done it or something similar! Ask them for tips.

8. Use vibrational medicine like flower and crystal essences, crystals, homeopathy or sound healing to raise your vibration by expanding your heart and releasing your fears.  I love this May All Your Dreams Come True Meditation from Doreen Virtue.

9. Switch off from popular media that force-feeds us with fear and low expectations about life. Most TV and radio news shows and newspapers and *shudder* reality TV are low vibration so be conscious about the energy you’re choosing to feed yourself with.

10. Trust.  Hold the vision, be open to the unexpected but never stop believing. If you get setbacks or disappointments dust yourself off, glean the Soul wisdom from what’s happened and keep on believing. If you can dream it, you can do it.

11. Focus.  I first had the dream of setting up a Bach flower community garden about 6 years ago and I tried to do it at 3 different projects in Scotland before I found the perfect place after moving to England. I never abandoned the dream, I kept it close to my heart and I kept tending it and focusing on it until it was right time and right place and it happened.

12. Get inspired by people who are earning their living Soulfully and have resources which will help you to do the same like Goddess Leonie, Mark Silver and Jonathan Mead. Soak up their free resources and invest in those that really inspire you.

You’re a beautiful snowflake, completely unique.  You are the only person who has the  dreams that are inside you and the ability to make them come true.

In the words of this song: “There is a life that’s been addressed, addressed to you intended only for your eyes.”

PS One of these is an affiliate link (no it’s not the bareback yak riding one – it’s the link to Goddess Leonie) and a couple are shameless self-promotion. The rest? Simply for your edification and delight.

Thank You 2011, You Were Lovely

2011, you have been a big and beautiful year filled with dreams come true.

If 2010 was the year I fell apart, then 2011 has been the year of rebirth. As 2011 comes to a quiet rainy close, I’m enjoying this pause for breath remembering the wonders that have unfolded during the past 12 months.

I didn’t consciously choose a word for 2011 but its theme has been expansion. During this magical year I’ve expanded from local workshops and one-to-one consultations to offering different types of soul support to over 70 people in 3 continents through this website.  It’s such a huge and humbling privilege I can’t quite find the words to express how I feel. It is an honour and a blessing; the golden thread of joy that weaves my heart and soul together.

I am so grateful to every single one of you who has visited this site, shared comments, booked consultations, an emotional healing package or intuitive diagnosis with me, bought Soul Blends or Bach Flower Remedy combinations, attended workshops and meditation classes, opened your hearts and trusted me with the precious jewels inside of you.  I wish you all the wonders of the world in 2012.

Here are some of my highlights from this lovely year.

January

I began setting up the Bach Flower Remedy Garden Project at Offshoots Permaculture, created leaflets and posters and information to publicise it, started writing the content for the 12 week course on Bach Flower Remedies I’d be teaching, received a full set of Bach Flower Remedies for the project donated by Crystal Herbs and sourced the garden centres, nurseries and wild places that would supply the seeds and plants we needed. I read what would turn out to be my favourite book of the year and began practising a weekly faerie meditation.

February

The 12 week course on Bach Flower Remedies at Offshoots Permaculture began with a group of wonderful people. We planted the first of the seeds we’d be growing, received funding from The Twelve Healers Trust to buy educational materials for the project and I ran a flower remedy art workshop with artist Eddie Foster. Happy days.

In meditation I asked how I could best honour nature spirits and received the message PERMACULTURE. Next morning I woke to an email saying a permaculture course was enrolling close to where I live! So lovely to study again, my brain needed to learn new things.

March

I had a piece of writing accepted for publication in the Earth Pathways Diary alongside artists and writers I really admire, cried at the generosity of garden centres and nurseries who donated trees and plants to the Bach Flower Remedy Garden, taught workshops on Bach Flower Remedies and learnt new things about the Bach Flower Remedy trees.

I got enthused by the Save Our Woods Campaign and joined the Grizedale Forest Rally, designed leaflets for our local Transition Town, had macrobiotic and whole foods coaching to help my energy levels and fell in love with Wast Water in the Lake District.

 April

The sun shone hot during the Easter holidays while we camped near Castlerigg Standing Stones and stroked moss in Borrowdale Forest.

Jason and I made and tested Essence of Wild apple and lilac flower remedies; I embraced seaweed, brown rice porridge and other macrobiotic recommendations and felt so much healthier, created a Beltane spiral which released stagnant energy in my life and garden, and celebrated my birthday in beautiful bluebell woodland.

May

Jason and I created the bluebell meditation, started taking 100 barefoot breaths outside every day and began creating what would become the Barefoot Breathing e-course.

I launched the Intuitive Diagnosis service, met friends in Sussex for the Life Cairn, enjoyed a pottery workshop and stumbled across the honeysuckle we needed to photograph for the Bach Flower Gallery.  I joined the Goddess Circle and read the Business Goddess e-course from start to finish in one day in the garden. Day turned to night as I brainstormed and visioned and planned, sitting by the fire-pit, finally seeing a way to reach more people with my work. So inspired I barely slept until October!

June

The Bach Flower Remedy workshops I was teaching at Offshoots came to an end with a joyful day planting baby Bach plants outside.

Jason and I made Essence of Wild geum and ragged robin flower essences and we worked day and night living, breathing and writing Barefoot Breathing e-course content.

I walked in King Henry VIII’s footsteps, drinking mead and eating cake in Epping Forest with friends for Summer Solstice weekend.

July

Met the elusive wild oat plant for the first time after days trying to track it down in Yorkshire (photographing this Bach Flower Remedy plant marked the end of two years’ work on the Bach Flower Remedy Gallery), worked hard on the Barefoot Breathing e-course and invited some favourite online writers to guest blog for us at Essence of Wild.

I contributed to the 30 Days of Goddess E-course, learnt to knit on 4 needles, discovered the pleasures of wasabi beans and dark chocolate with sea salt, and wrote guest blog posts about Self-Love and Bach Flower Remedies for PMS.

 August

We opened registration for Barefoot Breathing e-course and had such fun with the Wild Woodland Giveaway.  I guest blogged on Roots of She and was delighted to be asked to review two books written by online friends: Orange Moon and The Sweet Shack and Bach Bar.

I saw my first ever kingfisher by the River Hodder, went to a Starhawk workshop, met up with gorgeous online friends in real life, took my beautiful boy surfing for the first time and spent precious time with three friends who I rarely see.

September

Wrote a guest post on the Spiral and the Lotus, enjoyed being interviewed by Jackie Walker on Barefoot Radio, wrote close to 7,000 words of content for the Barefoot Breathing e-course every week, designed course materials and created weekly meditations. Barefoot Breathing ran for 30 days with almost 70 participants and I cried nearly every day at the comments and connections shared in the community. Huge, humbling, magical, life-changing, all-consuming, exhausting.

I fell in love with Abersoch celebrating Edward Bach’s birthday there on 24th September (it was one of his favourite places). Craggy coastline reminiscent of Scotland, cafes selling homemade cakes, walking in Bach’s footsteps and White Stuff. What else could I possibly want?

October

Barefoot Breathing drew its last breath on 10th October and I felt like I was drawing my last too! Jason and I had poured heart and soul into it for months. Slept for days. Drank lots of green smoothies. Wrote REST in big letters across every weekend in my diary until the end of December.

Created an audio workshop for the World’s Biggest Summit, launched the Emotional Healing Package, guest blogged about Healing the Family Soul and rewrote the content on this website.

November

Created Soul Blends, Jason and I launched Nature Inspiration at Essence of Wild, I redesigned the look of this website using Headway theme and created the Soul Medicine from your personal healing flower meditation (free when you sign up to the Flower Spirit mailing list).

Saw Seventh Wave Music in concert, enjoyed a day of community gardening and willow weaving with local Transition Town, dug more flower growing zones in my garden, had a Deadly Day Out and made Christmas cards.

December

We redesigned the Essence of Wild website, changed our mailing list provider and created ‘infrastructure’ that will make business life so much easier next year.

I started the Creative Goddess e-course to nurture my creativity outside of work, had lunch at a favourite cafe, knitted Christmas presents, had 3 weeks without sugar, did a site visit for our permaculture design project and rediscovered the joy of dancing Five Rhythms. I’ve been reflecting on 2011 and visualising 2012 using the Goddess Workbook and Planner.

Now as 2011 comes to an end, I’ll make sacred space with this oracle tonight and connect with the energy of 2012. My wishes for the year ahead are for freedom (the kind of freedom only I can give myself), nature and creativity.

What do you wish for yourself? I hope all your dreams come true in 2012. If you need essence support to make your dreams come true, the Live your Dreams Soul Blend contains the essences I’ve taken during this magical dream-filled year.

The Hidden Dangers of Doing What You Love

Photographs by Jason Smalley Most people dream of making a living from doing what they love but it’s a dangerous business. When I was 17 I went off to university to study English literature because I loved books and dreamt of working in publishing. After 4 years of literature I’d had my fill of analysing…

Unravelling Soul Truths

words by Jackie Stewart | images by Jason Smalley Sometimes we find our Soul medicine in the most unexpected places and we can’t even guess what it will heal in our hearts. I woke to a feeling of vulnerability and smallness, a trickling fear in my belly that I couldn’t quite place. I knew it…

I’ve Been Flirting

Dear Blog I’m feeling a little awkward because you and I haven’t been spending much time together lately. We used to sit down regularly and words about flower essences and emotional healing would emerge in the space we held together. I loved that. I looked forward to that. Maybe you did too. Lately though, I’ve…

Radiating Light from Within

Every morning I take 100 barefoot breaths in the garden and spend a little time with each of the flowers. For months buttercups have been growing abundantly in the front garden which doesn’t get much light. Lit from within, these bright yellow cups of sunshine radiate simple beauty without posing and posturing like the sun-worshipping…

Water violet flower essence aids the soul’s journey from feelings of lonely separation to interconnectedness. It was one of the first 12 Bach Flower Remedies discovered by Edward Bach in the 1930′s. Bach Flower Remedies for Sustainable Communities

Back in the 1930s a Harley Street doctor turned his back on conventional medicine to find cures for his patient’s health problems in nature. He abandoned his medical practice and devoted his life to finding natural remedies to heal the emotional states that he believed were causing his patient’s physical ill-health. He claimed “in those…

My Chemical Romance is Ending

Here’s a story about my long affair with chemical hair dye and why it’s time to say goodbye. In the summer a friend came to visit, and after brushing her hair she cleared the hairs from her hairbrush and put them into the compost bin that sits on the kitchen window sill to feed the…

When Connecting With Nature Feels Sad

For many days I’ve felt a call to the river. To walk beyond my usual places on the edge of the woodland. To explore where the path becomes overgrown and the mud flattens onto a grey beach. Where seabirds feast and ducks fly low to the water, where litter sits on the tideline and the…

Deepen Your Connection to the Earth

Clematis is the Bach Flower Remedy for Cancerians who are celebrating their birthdays just now. While there are many varieties of garden clematis, it’s made from the wild Clematis vitalba, known colloquially as ‘Traveller’s Joy’ or ‘Old Man’s Beard’. It’s one of the ingredients of world famous Rescue Remedy and is the best Bach Flower…

Nature Nurtures Mental Health

New research reveals that just five minutes spent taking exercise outside in a ‘green space’ (like a garden, park or woodland) boosts mental wellbeing. UK researchers examined evidence from 1,250 people in 10 studies and saw fast improvements in mood and self-esteem when respondents had regular access to nature. Interestingly the effects were stronger when…

On Not Being a Healer

Someone recently called me a healer and it jarred with me because I don’t think any human being is a healer.  I believe that love heals and human beings can help to facilitate that process but there’s no such thing as a healer. Am I being pedantic? Am I tripping myself up on semantics? Possibly,…

Leaf Litter

Hazel, yew, silver birch, elder, beech and lime greet me in the woodland park near my house where I like to wander or go running. I love that somewhere so earthy and natural exists in an urban landscape, but it bears the scars of urban life.  There’s litter in that there leaf litter, and lots…

Healing images have been used throughout time from cave paintings, sacred geometry, mandalas and…

Defrost Grief with Snowdrops

Yesterday I spent most of the day in mossy woodland, connecting with snowdrops and taking photographs of them with Jason from Wildscape.  An elderly couple who walked past asked me eagerly if I’d got any good photos. ‘Oh I don’t know, but I’m having a lovely time.’ I smiled from my little mossy nest on…

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly?

In my work with clients and my own journey, I am constantly reminded of the importance of integrating the aspects of ourselves we don’t like to look at. Hands up if you want to process your feelings of anger, fear, obsession, loneliness, bitterness, emotional neediness, self-hatred, hopelessness or low self-worth? Any takers? What, nobody? How…

Love and Appreciation

Many years ago I attended a Flower of Life workshop run by Anne Ward, a spiritual teacher in Scotland.  It was a four day workshop that opened my heart and deepened my spiritual connection. The core of Anne’s teachings is to help students connect more deeply with their heart and the vibrations of love and…
